Further Details on the Location from the Organizers

This Saturday October 5th, the event is at Bilberry Creek in Orleans. Registration is at Queenswood Heights Community Centre off Duford Drive. Parking is available either at the community centre or on the street.

The Score-O will start and finish in the same spot just south of the community centre. However, there is a 250m walk to the start for the afternoon point-to-point courses.

Junior Female: 2.7km, 12 controls
Junior Male: 2.9km, 12 controls
Intermediate Female: 2.9km, 9 controls
Intermediate Male: 3.0km, 10 controls
Senior Female: 4.4km, 14 controls
Senior Male: 4.7km, 14 controls

For the Score-O a points score of 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 has been assigned to each control with a penalty of 5 points per minute over the 60 minute limit. Details will be explained before the start.

All junior and intermediate courses have a water control approximately 60% through the course. Senior courses pass by this control also approximately 60% through the course, but do not have a control there so they are not required to punch.

Both senior courses cross Des Épinettes Avenue twice which can be busy at times. There will be event workers posted near the crossing area and Caution Runner signs set out. All courses have a leg through the residential streets toward the end. Aside from that, courses are confined to the forested area.

Note that there are lot of dog walkers in this area.

As this is a small area and with a total of 11 courses over two days (Orienteering Ottawa local meet and Cadets Orienteering), there are a lot of controls set out. Many of the courses are similar but not exactly the same so don't follow one another and be sure to check your control codes.

The woods are very nice this time of year. Lots of the leaves have fallen leaving the forest very open and runnable in many parts. Parts of the creek bed and slopes are very muddy and slippery.

See you out there,

Robert Graham, Course setter
Marketa Graham, Controller
